In 2005 the biggest indian airlines - Air India and Jet Airways decided to order the 777 for fleet expansion.
Air India's first T7s are leased and second hand 777s (from United). The first own 777 was delivered in 2007.
Jet Airways' 1st 777 came to India in April 07.
