Introduction
"Responding to strong demand from cargo operators around the world for an efficient, long-range, and high-capacity freighter, Boeing launched the Boeing 777 Freighter in May 2005 with a launch order from Air France...""... Bringing unsurpassed efficiency to long-haul markets, the 777 Freighter will provide more capacity than any other twin-engine freighter. The 777 Freighter will be based on the technologically advanced 777-200LR Worldliner (Longer Range) passenger airplane, and is scheduled to enter service in fourth quarter 2008." (source: Boeing.com)
In late January 2008 the production has started for the first 777F. During the press conference Kim Pastega (deputy programme manager and engineering leader for 777F) said: "We are exactly where we need to be at this point in the programme and have all the resources we need to have.".
Roll-out of the first 77F is expected in May.
During the roll-out ceremony (21 May 2008) of the 1st 777F Larry Loftis (VP 77 program) said: "We are excited to debut the newest member of our 777 and freighter families. ... Today is a tribute to the dedication and hard work our employees, customers and suppliers put into making this airplane a reality. The 777 Freighter's unmatched range, efficiency and capacity as a twin-engine cargo airplane will build on the Boeing leadership in the cargo market."
First Flight, Test Programm and Certification
Early in April 2008 the first 77F has come to the final body joint.
In late April 2008 the first 777F was rolled out, yet-unpainted.
On May 21st 2008 Boeing held a ceremony for the official presentation of its 777-Freighter.
On Monday, 14th of July 2008 the first 777-Freighter made its maiden-flight.
The 777 freighters will be assigned with a different order in the customer codes.
Normally, Boeing's planes are coded: Family (777) - Type (2..) - customer code (.28) - subtype (LR)
=> 777-228LR.
But, because of the 777 freighter is just a 777-F and no 777-200F or 777-200LRF (from which the 77F is derived) the designator is: Boeing (Family)777 - (subtype) F (customer code) 28
=> Boeing 777-F28.
