About
United Airlines was the launch customer for the 777 program. UAL and Boeing signed, on 15th October 1990, a handwritten contract on an
"old-yellowish" sheet of paper. UAL ordered 34 777s with options for another 34.
On 7th June 1995 the first 777 made its entry-into-service flight from LHR to IAD as UA921. Another two United 777s made their EIS later on the same day.
