About
Qatar Airways has placed its first order for the 777 on 30th May 2006.
Qatar Airways' first Boeing 777-300ER arrived in Doha on 29th November 2007. The delivery of QR's first Boeing marks a new era in Qatar Airways' long-haul fleet.
“With a capability of flying 16 hours non-stop, the Boeing 777 truly does provide Qatar Airways with global coverage, linking Doha with any
city worldwide" said Akbar Al Baker( chairman of QR) during the delivery ceremony.
Later in his speech he added that the 777 will form the "core" of QR's long-range fleet, thus letting expire the options Qatar Airways
held for further Airbus A340-600s.
The deliveries of the QR's remaining 777s are reaching out until mid-2010.
For crew training Qatar Airways introduced the 77W on flights in the Arabian Region.
With the delivery of QR's 2nd 77W, they are operating the daily flights to Washington. With the 3rd and 4th delivered 77W Qatar Airways switched its New York flights from EWR (via GVA, A330) to non-stop daily flights to JFK.
