Garuda has placed its original order for 6 77Es on 25th June 1996, but has steadily deferred the delivery since then.
During the early days of Singapore Airshow 2008 Garuda and Boeing signed and agreement for switching the existing order
for 6 777-200ERs to the larger 777-300ER and ordering additional 4 77Ws. First delivery is expected to be mid-2010.
During the ceremony Emirsyah Satar (CEO, GA) said: “We hope that this will be part of our expansion ... and will be used to open new routes.”
The expansion will mainly consist of destinations in Europe (AMS, FRA, London) and America. Also Garuda plans to phase out its 744s with this new order for the famous Twinjet.
