Delta has ordered the 77Es on 13th November 1997.
They got 8 77Es of their initially ordered 13, before a major restructuring phase of DL.
During this period DL decided to swap the remaining orders to the 77L. Because the 77L suites better for Delta's longer-range routes like JFK-BOM.
During a ceremony at Delta's Atlanta MRO-halls, the first 77L was dedicated to Delta's worldwide employees as
"The Spirit of Delta".
